Counselling - what is it?

Counselling is an exclusively talking therapy' where the client has the opportunity to speak about the issues that concern them and through doing so with a counsellor may gain new understanding and access their own inner healing and resolution.

How many sessions will I need?

Typically, six to twelve sessions are required to enable the resolution of a particular issue to emerge in the short term. Longer term sessions can extend beyond this time frame and permit time and opportunity to work through difficulties in more depth.

  Counselling may help with:

Anxiety
Bereavement
Depression
Effects of domestic violence
Life changing events
Poor self esteem

Relationship Counselling

I am a Relationship Counsellor, a Clinical Supervisor, Group Skills Trainer and a Family Therapeutic Mediator, and I have been working with individuals, couples, and families since 2002 (Cert CC Relate)

I studied Relationship Therapy at East London University, where I completed my Post Graduate Diploma in Couple Therapy in 2005 and have been in Private Practice since April 2005.

In 2006, I was granted the status of M BACP Accredited Counsellor/ Psychotherapist, and began to work as a licensed relationship counsellor.

Since then, I have continued my studies in Therapeutic Mediation, by participating in a year long [2006/7] pilot scheme working in Homeless Prevention with local authorities, offering support and resources to youths and their families.

In 2007/8 I began work as a Clinical Supervisor with RELATE, and in the following year, in my Private Practice, I started to provide Clinical Supervision to licensed and trainee practitioners who are in turn, providing counselling services to couples, children and families.

In 2010, I attained a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Supervision from the University of Hull, plus a qualification in Group Skills for Trainers – awarded by the NOCN National Open College Network in 2010.

Counselling - Relationship Counselling

Counselling provides a safe and confidential place to explore issues which affect the way you feel about yourself. You may wish to develop self awareness, change patterns of behaviour in your life, or find practical solutions to problems.

By making the choice to seek help from a counsellor, you are allowing yourself the space to talk with someone who has no invested interest in directing you one way or the other.

You'll have a completely accepting, non-judgmental space within which to explore your issues (problems) and to be able to deal with them in a supportive and caring environment.

However, maybe most importantly, you are listened to - something that in this day and age is a rare commodity.
