| Herbal Therapy - what is it? | | | | | | | Herbal
medicine is the oldest form of medicine known to man and used
extensively around the world. It is also known as Botanical Medicine or
Phytotherapy.
It is the use
of plant remedies in the treatment of disease and one of the most
popular complementary therapies in the UK today.
Many modern pharmaceutical drugs are based on herbs. In Herbal Therapy
we combine both modern scientific research and traditional herbal therapy
for optimum results.
Many herbs have powerful medicinal properties and can also assist
in maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle. | | | | | | | | What happens during a consultation? | | | | | | | Medical
Herbalists are trained in orthodox diagnostic skills.
During the
consultation a full case history is taken and any necessary physical
examination will be made.
Your initial consultation will take approximately 50 minutes.
Normally a follow up appointment will be made 2 to 6 weeks after the initial consultation and usually takes 30 minutes.
We may also advise
on diet and lifestyle if necessary and can treat people of all ages.
If you are already taking medication or other treatment we always take this into
consideration.
It is important that you do
not stop taking any current orthodox prescribed medicines without consulting your GP. | | | | | | | | How many consultations will I need? | | | | | | | The number of consultations and frequency will depend on the nature of your condition and progress.
It is difficult to
predict accurately how long treatment will take as individual
responses can vary.
The longer you have been unwell the longer
it is likely to take to restore better health.
Most people
feel positive changes within the first weeks of treatment followed by
more gradual improvement over time.
| | |
| |
| | What will be prescribed? | | | | | | | Your
prescription will be prepared after the consultation and may be in the form of tinctures (alcohol based herbal
extractions), herbal teas, creams or lotions.
Prescriptions are made up within 1 to 2 days and either left at The Greenwich Natural Health
Centre for collection or posted to you at home, whichever is more convenient.
All remedies are
free from animal products and, wherever possible, from organic sources. | |

| | I
began my studies in Oriental Medicine in 1993 at the London College of
Oriental Massage. I went on to train in Traditional Chinese Medicine at
the Academy of Oriental Medicine in Austin, Texas and at the College of
Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading, Berks, where I graduated in
acupuncture in 2003. I have been practising
acupuncture in
London for five years, in Greenwich and Borough.
More recently I have
qualified in Chinese Herbal Medicine, which is a wonderful adjunct to
acupuncture.I
supervise students undergoing clinical training
in acupuncture. I am particularly interested in the clinical
application of the Chinese medical classical texts, which provide the
fundamental orientation of Chinese medicine practice.
I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council, bound to abide by its
code of ethics and fully insured.
