Naturopathy - what is it?

Naturopathic Medicine is a distinct health care system that blends modern scientific knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine.  A Naturopath is a practitioner that seeks to restore and maintain optimum health in their clients by emphasizing nature's inherent self-healing process.

The Naturopath works with their client to address the physiological, physical, and mental/emotional aspects of health.  Symptoms of disease are seen as warning signals of improper functioning of the body and unfavourable lifestyle habits.

Each Naturopathic Practitioner is unique in the therapies they may use which may include any combination of; nutrition, herbs, homeopathy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, massage, and lifestyle counselling.

Naturopaths can also complement and enhance health care services provided by other health care professionals. They co-operate with other branches of medical science, referring clients to other practitioners for different therapies if considered appropriate.

Clients are therefore provided with an integrated health care plan.

How does it work?

Your first visit will take 1 hour 30 minutes and comprises a thorough review of your intake form and a short physical examination may take place.

During this time your Practitioner will take the opportunity to obtain valuable information about your current health, your medical history and your lifestyle.

If necessary, further laboratory testing may be required using the services of an independent laboratory.

These matters will of course be discussed with you during your first visit and depending on your unique case.

Your health information will then be used to create a custom therapy plan that is tailored to you as an individual.

Naturopathic assessment may include any of the following:

Medical history

Analysis of lifestyle, environment, and nutrition

Clinical examination and tests

Laboratory testing

Subtle energy diagnostic methods

Before your first appointment

There are some documents we ask you bring with you to your first appointment, as it will help your Practitioner use your time together more effectively.

1) Your completed intake form - which will have be sent to you in advance of your first appointment.

2) Any recent medical reports you may have in your possession.

Your therapy plan is provided on your second visit and will incorporate a range of naturopathic therapies best suited to your individual health situation.

Second and subsequent visits are typically 1 hour long.

Naturopathy may help with if you:

Are looking for disease prevention and health promotion strategies. Have been diagnosed with an illness and are looking for complementary and alternative therapies.

Have a range of symptoms that they have been unable to address on their own or with the help of other medical practitioners. Are looking to combine conventional and naturopathic treatments with the aim of minimizing side effects of drugs, surgery or conventional therapies.

Having spent over 20 years in various business roles I embraced a long-standing passion for health and well-being and changed careers.

After studying with the College of Naturopathic Medicine in 2000, I became a Colon Hydrotherapist in 2008. Since that time I have seen over 500 clients and provided Naturopathic advice.

With a dedicated Naturopathic practice at the Greenwich Natural Health Centre, I hope am better able to help clients attain a feeling of improved health using naturopathic methods and techniques.

I specialise in detoxification, IBS, bowel issues in general and weight loss.

I am a member of the Complementary and Natural Health Care Council (CNHC) and the Association of Registered Colon Hydrotherapists (ARCH).
