Naturopathy - what is it?
|
|
Naturopathic Medicine
is a distinct health care system that blends modern scientific
knowledge with traditional and natural forms of medicine. A
Naturopath
is a practitioner that seeks to restore and maintain optimum health in
their clients by emphasizing nature's inherent self-healing process.
The Naturopath works with their client to address the physiological,
physical, and mental/emotional aspects of health. Symptoms of
disease
are seen as warning signals of improper functioning of the body and
unfavourable lifestyle habits.
Each Naturopathic Practitioner is unique in the
therapies they may use which may include any combination of; nutrition,
herbs,
homeopathy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, massage, and lifestyle
counselling.
Naturopaths can also complement and enhance health
care services provided by other health care professionals. They
co-operate with other branches of medical science, referring clients
to
other practitioners for different therapies if considered appropriate.
Clients are therefore provided with an integrated health care plan.

How does it
work?
Your first visit will take 1 hour 30 minutes and comprises a
thorough review of your intake form and a short physical
examination may take place.
During
this time your Practitioner will take the opportunity to obtain
valuable information about your current health, your medical history
and your lifestyle.
If necessary, further laboratory testing may be required using the
services of an independent laboratory.
These matters will of course be discussed with you during your first
visit and depending on your unique case.
Your health information will then be used to create a custom therapy
plan that is tailored to you as an individual.
Naturopathic assessment
may include any of the following:
Medical history
Analysis of lifestyle, environment, and nutrition
Clinical examination and tests
Laboratory testing
Subtle energy diagnostic methods

Before your first appointment
There
are some documents we ask you bring with you to your first appointment,
as it will help your Practitioner use your time together more
effectively.
1) Your completed intake form - which will have be sent to you in
advance of your first appointment.
2) Any recent medical reports you may have in your possession.
Your therapy plan is provided on your second visit and will incorporate a
range of naturopathic
therapies best suited to your
individual health situation.
Second and subsequent visits are typically 1 hour long.
