Reflexology - what is it?

Reflexology is the ancient African, Egyptian, and Native American art of foot massage. It can relieve various ailments by working on reference points on the feet, which correspond to various systems and organs of the body.

How does it work?

Reflexology is based on the belief that vital energies, or Chi, flow through meridians or channels in the body. By applying pressure to any of the zones on the feet, the entire channel throughout the body is affected, releasing trapped energy thus easing stress, pain and discomfort.

The treatment is a convenient, accessible and drug free way of stimulating the body's natural healing abilities, tuning-up the body and staying healthy. There is no need to remove clothing and no needles are used, so the treatment is non-invasive.

What results can you expect?

The first time you go to a reflexologist you have a preliminary talk, followed by the treatment, which usually lasts about an hour. After the treatment your body may respond In various ways and this information is vital to your reflexologist as it tells them how you are responding to treatment. During the course of the treatment, changes occur in your feet, you will become more attuned to your body with increased physical and psychological awareness.

Reflexology calms and soothes the body and the mind, reducing stress and inducing deep relaxation. It improves the circulation by unblocking areas of tension and debris, allowing the flow of blood, nutrients and energy to move more naturally and easily both in the foot and within its corresponding system and organ.

It cleanses the body of toxins and impurities by unblocking the lymphatic, excretory and integumentary (skin, hair and nails) systems by removing the waste products built up at reflex points. Reflexology can promote well-being and balance in the whole organism. It nurtures relationships, and aids productivity and creative thought. It is an excellent preventative health care.

What can Reflexology do for you?

Reflexology gives direct access to the glandular or endocrine system, so it is particularly useful for hormonal & digestive complaints. Reflexology can instigate change in the internal organs by rebalancing them, so it is very useful where pain is present and in terminal cases. Reflexology is a direct and immediate channel to healing, boosting the immune system and building up bodily defences against infection.

I have been an active practitioner for over ten years and have seen the complementary therapy field flourish around me.

This encouraged me to research the various therapies by traveling around the globe, which broadened my knowledge and helped me obtain unique techniques from the native lands.

I subsequently developed a passion to share my work and skills which lead me to Ireland and the USA where I lectured at schools and promoted Complimentary Therapy at trade shows.

I am a full member of the Association of Reflexologists and follow their codes of Practice and Ethics seriously.

In my experience as a practitioner I have previously achieved the following:

Successfully treated various aspects and conditions with Reflexology and have had broad experience on fertility/pregnancy.

Stimulated Lymphatic drainage and reinforced Respiratory system with Indian Head Massage.
